have reached mating age, I begin to feel more desire for comfort.
Gilen rolled his eyes. You have only just reached that age, he asked sarcastically?
Dagon narrowed his eyes at him and huffed out a fiery breath not much, only enough to
singe his brows a little. The many years of space travel has softened all of us, I fear.
Speak for yourself, Gilen growled, having put some distance between himself and Dagon,
who seemed a little more foul tempered than usual.
This place will be challenge enough to keep us from growing too soft, if that is what you are
worried about, Joar put in. Granted, it is not the same as Ator, but, in its own way this place will
require us to be constantly alert and will keep us honed for hardship. I am thinking we should
call our new world Baator.
Now we are going to name the world when we have not even had a gathering, Gilen
demanded angrily?
I do not see why I should not name it, Joar said indignantly. We have been coming here for
years and no one has bothered to give it a name beyond base camp. And I think the gathering
will be no more than a formality. No one has called everyone together and said to us we have
found a world that is perfect for a new home world . Not in all the time we have wandered! No
one has called a gathering and said we have found mates . I don t see them objecting. I don t
see it at all.
Truthfully, Gilen didn t either. Meer formality or not, it is the Furian way and I am not in
favor of casting aside customs we have practiced since antiquity! We have very little left beyond
the traditions of our people!
Dagon shrugged and began to descend. We will do what we feel will further our desire for a
mate. We must court her to convince her to accept us and I am willing to worry about the other
later when the others arrive and we gather to discuss the situation and vote.
If they choose another place, then we will build again but we will have no one to build for
and no reason to build if we do not secure a mate and impregnate her while we have the chance.
Gilen discovered he was having a hard time keeping his cock tamed with Dagon constantly
reminding them about the possibility of impregnating Cara. It made it hard as hell to think
straight.
He supposed that was why both Dagon and Joar had thrown everything to the wind that did
not pertain directly to getting what they wanted.
On many levels most he completely agreed with them.

The problem was that he wasn t as completely comfortable throwing age old traditions to the
wind as Dagon and Joar seemed to be. And it wasn t the traditions, per se, that caused his attack
of conscience. It was his sense of fairness. After so many years of misery, they deserved a taste
of happiness and comfort every bit as much as everyone else but he didn t feel that they
deserved it more than anyone else.
Of course it wasn t the least bit rational to consider doing without when he knew damned well
that that only meant someone else would snatch Cara up, but the logic of that reasoning didn t do
anything to soothe his pang of conscience.
Regardless, he set to work with the others when they d shifted once more, gathered the tools
they needed from storage, and headed back to the area they d chosen to build their abode.
They d been working for hours when it dawned on him that they d left Cara completely alone
in the fort. Undoubtedly the thought hit home hard when it did hit because both Dagon and Joar
caught the thought. They stopped immediately, set their tools down and stared hard at the
building in the distance.
The sun, they discovered with a touch of surprise, had traveled across most of the sky and was
descending toward the far horizon. It would be dark before long.
She is still there, Dagon said after a moment.
 She is safe, Joar added.
But she s alone, Gilen pointed out.
She is always alone, Dagon said irritably. She s a woman. They don t have triads.
Gilen stared at him thoughtfully. Good point. She may be bored, though.
Dagon examined himself. I am nasty. I believe I will go and find Cara and see if she cares
to bathe in the stream with me. He stared at Gilen and Joar thoughtfully for a moment. You
two should go and find food. It will be good to have something fresh for a change.
Gilen and Joar exchanged a speaking look.
I need a bath, as well. I will bathe and then go hunting.
What is the point of that? Dagon snapped.
Not leaving you with Cara all to yourself! Gilen growled.
Dagon studied him with annoyance for several moments and finally shrugged. It they
continued to argue it would be dark and then Cara would not want to bathe in the stream, he was
sure.

Cara eyed the guys suspiciously when they returned. She d had plenty of time to calm down
since they left hours but although her ardor had cooled in the intervening hours, her irritation
hadn t. Quite the contrary in point of fact. She was more annoyed with them not less.
Reminding herself that she was in a survival situation, and that playing stupid didn t seem to
be working, she finally gave in and followed them out of the building.
It was a pleasant surprise to see that they d cleared the brush to the ground and she could see
acres now that looked as smooth as a lawn or maybe a golf course considering the size of it.
She relaxed fractionally, looking around with more interest than she d felt before as they
crossed the wide clearing and finally reached a wall of jungle on the other side.
Here, too, there had been some clearing, however quite a bit actually although they hadn t
cleared this to the ground, not completely anyway. But maybe they weren t through? It seemed [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
